Tamara de Lempicka (1898–1980) was a Polish-born painter and a central figure in the Art Deco movement, celebrated for her distinctive blend of Cubist geometry, Neoclassical elegance, and modern sensuality. After moving to Paris in the early 1920s, she quickly gained fame among the city’s elite for her portraits of aristocrats, artists, and socialites, rendered in a style marked by sleek lines, luminous colors, and a polished, almost sculptural finish. Her works capture the glamour, sophistication, and liberated spirit of the interwar period.
Today, Lempicka’s paintings are highly prized in the art market, often commanding multi-million-dollar prices at auction. Collectors value them for their rarity, distinctive style, and the cultural allure of the Art Deco era, making her works staples in major museum collections and high-profile private holdings.
Perspective (1923) is a striking example of Lempicka’s early mastery, depicting two nude women reclining against a fragmented, Cubist-inspired urban backdrop. The geometric treatment of forms, combined with sculptural modeling of the bodies, creates a dynamic tension between intimacy and architectural abstraction. The piece exemplifies her ability to merge sensuality with avant-garde formalism, marking her as a unique voice in modern art.
