Bronze sculpture and marble base, made following the Chiparus model.
Made using the lost-wax casting technique. The lost-wax casting technique is an ancient process consisting of creating a sculpture model in wax, covering it with refractory material to make a mould, and then melting and removing the wax with heat. The resulting cavity is filled with molten metal (bronze in this case) to create an exact replica. This technique is highly valued for allowing great detail and precision in the forms, even in small pieces.

Demetre Chiparus was one of the leading sculptors of the Art Deco period and remains one of the most admired names in early 20th-century decorative art. Born in Romania and active in Paris during the 1920s and 1930s, Chiparus became internationally known for his elegant sculptures of dancers, performers, and theatrical figures inspired by the Ballets Russes, oriental themes, and the fascination with exotic costumes that characterised the Art Deco era.
The sculpture “Georgian Dancer with Hoop” is a striking example of the dynamic and graceful compositions associated with the Chiparus style. The figure is depicted in an acrobatic dance pose, balancing inside a circular hoop, a motif frequently seen in Art Deco sculpture to emphasise movement, rhythm, and geometric harmony. The flowing dress, elongated proportions, and refined lines reflect the strong influence of stage performance and modern dance on decorative arts of the period.
Original Chiparus sculptures were traditionally produced using the lost-wax bronze casting technique, often combined with marble, onyx, or stone bases, creating luxurious objects intended for sophisticated interiors of the Art Deco period. These works became symbols of elegance, modernity, and craftsmanship, and today they remain highly sought after by collectors of decorative sculpture and Art Deco design.
Pieces inspired by Chiparus, such as Georgian Dancer with Hoop, perfectly capture the spirit of the 1920s and 1930s, combining classical sculptural tradition with modern decorative aesthetics. Their strong visual presence and refined design make them ideal both for art collections and for stylish interior decoration.
